Since our Friday discussion (12-1 – check out the Facebook event here) is on the future of higher education and what we can/should do to shape it, this week’s topic is the same.

    Questions to consider…

Who will/actually does (and who should) have the most influence in directing policies and influencing culture in HE institutions? Students are certainly protesting issues such as commercialisation all over the world – will they have a greater ‘voice’ as the full impact of tuition fees hits?

How will the relationship between staff and students change under technological and financial pressures?

Will universities become more research-led – will this lead to a decline in the ‘arts’?

Are universities going to keep expanding and should they? Will we see greater numbers of international students in our universities and are they being exploited financially?

Will universities be seen more and more as a leg-up onto a career ladder? How will this affect mature students?

Obviously there are many more questions to ask and answer! And all responses are welcome, long or short.

Looking forward to seeing everyone this Friday!
